The company was founded in 2002 by a former employee of Cherokee Publications. She had worked and built Cherokee Publications up for nearly 12 years. She decided to branch out on her own after believing for 7 years that the present owner of Cherokee Publications was going to sell the company to her at a fair price, but the asking price for a company in which she had poured her heart, soul, sweat and tears into was priced at a price that was 3 or 4 times the actual value. The present owner of Cherokee Publications had promised Beth several years before that if she stayed (when everyone else was taking much better jobs at the new casino, better pay, benefits, etc), that he would give her Cherokee Publications when he retired in 2 or 3 years. Beth didn't expect Mr. Sharpe (Cherokee Publications owner)to give her the business but did expect to get it at a better price than anyone else. Considering that she had refused other jobs that had health insurance, benefits, raises, etc. Beth was promised health insurance when she first started at Cherokee Publicatons and was told up until her last day (12 years later) that they were working on getting insurance. Beth thought that all her years of hardwork and dedication would pay off evenually and was tolerant of the lack of pay raises, insurance, etc.. Beth did take the proposal that Mr. Sharpe gave her to her bank for the loan but was told that the asking price was a much higher price than someone walking in off the street could get it for. However Beth did try, because she had run this company and made it what it is today, and Cherokee Publications and its customers were her heart. The Owner of CP told Beth that another company from TN was willing to buy his company for his asking price, Beth did not want to stand in the way of his getting his asking price for his company. She told him to sell to the TN company. She did not get resentful or bitter. During the" supposed buy out" Beth remained at CP improving it everyday. She told her boss that she had decided to open up a new company Native Collections, Maiden Cherokee. He had ask her to stay until the sale was finalized with CP and the tennessee company and she agreed, thinking that this would be a few months, after a year her business was growing and she was still working out her notice at CP. Unfortunately something must have went wrong with CPs sale and after a time had past, certain individuals at CP were making the working environment unbearable. Even though Beth had given her notice a year before, employees started leaving CP for new jobs. Beth wanted to stay until the owner sold but it just became unbearable and finally she had to cut her ties and spread her wings and fly and thus is the creation of Native Collections, Maiden Cherokee. Beth was born and raised here in Western North Carolina, and that is one of the main reasons she feels so attached to the cultures and traditons of the Cherokee. It is a small company but it is growing everyday. We do not wish to be confused with Cherokee Publications but realize that some may confuse the 2 on account of Beth running Cherokee Publications for so long. We are not associated with Cherokee Publications in any manner. After all the hard work Beth put into that company she had to walk away. It has come to our knowledge that obviously Mr. Sharpe feels some resentment towards Native Collections and has expressed it to others. That is why we decided to post this information for your viewing. We felt as if you should be fully informed of why Beth formed Native Collections. A few added notes that we felt was only fair to mention are these....Cherokee Publications is not owned by its original owner/founder nor is it owned by a native american, the owner of Cherokee Publications is not even a native of Western North Carolina. To our knowledge Cherokee Publications does not have any employees, board members, etc. that are enrolled members of the Eastern band of the Cherokee. Native Collections however is owned by someone who is a native of Western North Carolina. Beth was born and raised here and that is why she treasures the cultural and traditonal values of the Cherokee. Native Collections has only enrolled members of the Eastern band of the Cherokee as chairpeople, or board members. We apologize for any bad publicity that CP has thrown our way but want to assure you that you will get the same reliable service that you did when Beth was at Cherokee Publications. Actually Beth claims and I tend to agree, that the service is better because now she is at liberty to give out free information, or special offers, etc. which she enforces quite often. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Native Collections.
